The Family, (formerly known as Kirk Franklin and The Family) was formed in 1992 by Kirk Franklin, composed of neighborhood friends and church associates. Their live debut album, "Kirk Franklin & The Family", went platinum—making it the first gospel album to surpass one million sales—spending nearly two years on the charts and winning a GMA Dove Award.
